How to Enroll

How to Apply to the Novel Generators (Spring & Fall):

Submission Requirements

  • A description of your project (300 words)
  • The first ten pages of the novel you plan to work on in the Novel Generator.
  • A statement of plans (500 words maximum) describing your novel idea, and why you think the Novel Generator can help you write it.
  • Reference contact: Name, email address, and phone number of a former instructor, mentor, or editor who has worked with you on your writing in some capacity. Please specify how you know this person. A GrubStreet contact is not required. Please avoid sending reference letters. They are not required/requested. [Note: we are not assessing prestige or stature here. This is simply someone who can speak to your work, commitment, and community-mindedness. Please do not hesitate to apply to this program because you don't have industry contacts. The whole point of GrubStreet is to support writers who lack such access.)
  • Experience in at least one workshop at GrubStreet or an equivalent writing center, program, or conference. This can include libraries, community arts centers, community colleges, extension schools, etc. Experience in GrubStreet workshops is not required.

Tuition and Fellowships

The cost of the program is $2,570, payable in full one week before the start of class. Payment plans are available with 50% due at least one week before the start of class and the rest usually divided across the first third of the program.

Fellowships of 25% - 75% tuition are available and based on a combination of merit and financial need. Applicants can apply for a GrubStreet Fellowship at the end of their application to the program. The fellowship/scholarship portion of the application is brief, and if you have questions feel free to contact [email protected].
