Our Podcast Studio

GrubStreet's podcast studio at the Center for Creative Writing is now available to rent! Whether you're interested in recording your own podcast, audiobook, or just playing with storytelling craft in a new medium, we're excited to offer the studio as a resource to support your goals. Read on to learn more about our facility and equipment, scheduling time in the studio, pricing, and more.

Orientation Sessions and Studio Rentals

Fill out this brief form to request studio time.

You must attend a free studio orientation session prior to renting the studio to get set up with our equipment and check out our space. These are quick, 30 minute sessions designed to get you acclimated to the space with dedicated operations staff support. We recommend bringing any devices you intend to use for recordings (ie. personal computer, MicroSD card, extra microphone, etc.).

*If you are an experienced user of Rodecaster Pro and traditional podcast studio equipment, you may be able to bypass the orientation and book recording time.

The studio is available for rent Monday-Thursday 10am-9pm, and Friday-Sunday 10am-2pm.

Recording Assistance and Post-Production

GrubStreet does not offer audio technicians, dedicated podcast support staff, or post-recording services. We do have general Operations staff on site who are happy to help get your personal devices connected to the board and provide resources for using our equipment. We can also direct you to some free and paid resources for post-production and editing services. Our best recommendation is to come to the studio with as much prep work done in advance, as studio time is best spent recording audio.

The Studio

Our studio comfortably seats two people and is ADA accessible. Guests are not required to attend a podcast studio orientation, as long as the host is the only one working with our Rodecaster Pro soundboard. We have also worked to limit any external noise during recording with fabric acoustic paneling and acoustic seal tape.

Studio Equipment and AV

  • Two Condenser microphones with articulating mount and pop screen
  • RODECaster Pro Integrated Podcast Production Studio with all requirements for podcasting in a single easy-to-use device:
  • Four mic inputs on the soundboard
  • Four headphone outputs on the soundboard
  • Bluetooth and TRRS connections to bring in phone calls and other audio
  • Internal audio recording to a microSD card
  • USB connection to the owner’s furnished laptop for additional post-production via software like Audacity, Garageband, etc.
  • MicroSD Card to USB Reader (MicroSD cards may be available for purchase if requested prior to the session, they are always free to borrow for the session)
  • Two studio headphones
  • Communal Mac laptop computer furnished with Audacity software

Studio Time Rates

We are committed to making our new studio accessible to all in our community who are interested in experimenting and producing their stories with our recording tools.

Our studio orientations are free of cost. Rental sessions are priced on an hourly basis; our flexible, pay-what-you-can pricing model starts at $10/hour, up to the true cost of service rate of $60/hr. You have the ability to select the price that works for you at checkout, no questions asked.
