Class Description
Whether you're looking to experiment, produce new poems, or revise existing drafts, this workshop offers the opportunity to broaden and deepen your knowledge of poetry. We’ll move energetically and purposefully through six different poetry prompts, each tackling either occasion, technique, or form (examples: Ode/Elegy, Pantoum, anaphora). We'll read successful, stunning examples of published authors' approaches to these prompts, and find unexpected ways to get close to their level, producing a new draft of a poem every week. To kick off each week’s topic, the instructor will provide a packet of optional readings and a short audio lecture. You will take away targeted, motivating, practical workshop comments from an experienced instructor and feedback from peers, and you’ll leave the course with both fresh and revised drafts of multiple poems.
*Note that while our handy dandy "Schedule" tab states a 6-7pm class time, there are actually no live meetings for this class! Assignments and deadlines will be given by your instructor. Students will have access to the online class portal starting at 5pm on the first day of class. Instructions for logging onto the online portal will be emailed to registered students before 5pm the first day of class.
