Class Description

This session is part of GrubStreet's Manuscript Month, a programming deep dive into the publishing journey. Learn more about Manuscript Month here!
A captivating query letter is your gateway to traditional publishing. To put your best foot forward, you need to write a query letter that stands out, follows a specific format, and impresses and intrigues an agent. This online session is designed to take the guesswork out of writing this important letter.
In this session, we'll cover: the five essential elements every query letter should have, how to write the all-important pitch paragraph, how to distill your manuscript into 400 words, dos and don’ts for finding comp titles, and how to reduce overwhelm and build self-assurance as you send your work into the world.
You can expect to leave this session with a clear understanding of querying fundamentals and increased confidence in taking the first step towards your publishing journey.

Zoom Participation:
In our experience, the intimate nature of a writing workshop benefits from on-camera participation. Students are of course welcome to turn their camera off whenever they need to, but it is a community norm for cameras to be on most of the time. You can learn more about using Zoom here.
Zoom Accessibility:
You can enable closed captioning at any time during the meeting by clicking the CC button at the bottom of the screen. If you'd like to access the transcript after class, please make sure to let your instructor ahead of time that you'd like a copy.
