Profile

Dear Grubbies,

I am writing to share the news that my time as a long-time member of the staff at GrubStreet will be coming to its conclusion at the end of this year. Although a sad occasion in many ways, I am at a stage in my personal, professional, and artistic path in which change feels like the appropriate step.

My time at Grub has been deeply meaningful primarily because of the people. I have had the privilege to collaborate with instructors, Boston Writers of Color Group members, Grub alumni and Fellows, students and staff members, local and national partners — all of whom have had tremendous impact on my professional and personal journey. It has been immeasurably moving to see so many humans committed to the same mission: for writers to have equitable support and agency in their own artistic growth. As someone who could have used a place like GrubStreet as an emerging writer, I will never take for granted how important and transformational a community like this one can be.

Over the past nine years, I have been inspired by the work we’ve done together. I am confident that GrubStreet is on strong footing, poised for even bigger and deeper impact. For now, please know that I won’t be a stranger. I will continue to be part of this community in other ways — as a writer, a mentor, a friend, and soon enough, perhaps an instructor once again.

Lastly, but definitely not least, thank you for the wonderful memories, for everything you have taught me, and for your belief in the arduous but necessary work of being an artist in the world. Thank you, too, for the constant reminder that writing is at its best when shared, made more meaningful in community, and most essential when it leads to empathy and connection.

With eternal gratitude and from the heart,
Dariel
