Class Description
Are you looking to expand your creative practice beyond the written word, or find inspiration from other artistic mediums? In this generative 6-week class, we’ll experiment and take creative risks, and construct and discuss our creative processes together. Together, we’ll investigate surrealism, dream work, and ekphrastic writing; map narratives through collage and painting; use movement and music as creative prompts; and experiment with other ways of making and thinking. Authors will include André Breton, Carlos Drummond de Andrade, Monica Ong, Ocean Vuong, and more.
This class will be open to writers of all genres/levels and will focus on process: What happens when we change our methods, introduce constraints, work through another medium, or simply follow an unexpected idea? Sharing work will be optional, though students will be encouraged to share what came up for them during the writing process. Each student will also be encouraged to bring their own strange, playful, or experimental prompt to class. Our goal is not necessarily to make finished work, but to welcome new possibilities for making it.

Zoom Participation:
In our experience, the intimate nature of a writing workshop benefits from on-camera participation. Students are of course welcome to turn their camera off whenever they need to, but it is a community norm for cameras to be on most of the time. You can learn more about using Zoom here.
Zoom Accessibility:
You can enable closed captioning at any time during the meeting by clicking the CC button at the bottom of the screen. If you'd like to access the transcript after class, please make sure to let your instructor ahead of time that you'd like a copy.
