Class Description

You have a great idea for a narrative nonfiction book, but can you turn that idea into a book that will sell in today’s marketplace? Smart, engaging nonfiction books fly off the shelves, but it takes some know-how to write them. This intensive class will help you become more strategic and efficient. You will learn how to develop and sustain your idea, using your background, research skills, and story-telling prowess to craft a compelling book. Led by a seasoned author and book doctor, this class will use workshop and lecture to address the nuts and bolts of writing a solid, book-length piece of work. You will learn how to flesh out your ideas into chapters and then piece those into a cohesive whole, keeping your mission and audience in mind. You will workshop parts of your manuscript or proposal to sharpen your narrative skills. Each class will include instructor feedback. By the end of the sessions, you'll have a clear roadmap to finishing your proposal and/or fine tuning your manuscript draft.

Zoom Participation:

In our experience, the intimate nature of a writing workshop benefits from on-camera participation. Students are of course welcome to turn their camera off whenever they need to, but it is a community norm for cameras to be on most of the time. You can learn more about using Zoom here.

Zoom Accessibility:

You can enable closed captioning at any time during the meeting by clicking the CC button at the bottom of the screen. If you'd like to access the transcript after class, please make sure to let your instructor ahead of time that you'd like a copy.
