Class Description

Do you need inspiration in your writing life? Put yourself in a position to generate new work with this rapid-fire series of deadlines, readings, and feedback from peers. In this course for fiction writers, you'll use prompts and strict word-count limits to create six new stories—or the beginnings of stories—and submit your work for critique every week. At the same time, we’ll discuss published stories and consider specific aspects of craft such as characterization, architecture, setting, etc., to get you thinking about new ways to handle your material even as you write for weekly deadlines. At the end of our “boot camp,” you’ll take away six stories or story beginnings and a more refined understanding of craft to apply as you revise.

*Note that while our handy dandy "Schedule" tab states a 6-7pm class time, there are actually no live meetings for this class! Assignments will be given on a weekly basis. Students will have access to the online class portal starting at 5pm, May 24th. Instructions for logging onto the online portal will be emailed to registered students before 5pm the first day of class. Students will access the online portal at the following web address: http://online.grubstreet.org/
