Class Description
This orientation is exclusively for 2026-2027 Intensive Program students.
Writers who’ve confirmed their acceptance into a GrubStreet Intensives program for the 2026-2027 cycle are invited to join Director Eson Kim for an optional, casual welcome, orientation, and Q&A.
The first 20 minutes of the session will share tips and best practices for maximizing participation in the program while avoiding some pitfalls. The remaining 40 minutes will be devoted to attendee Q&A.
Topics that will be covered:
- What to expect from the program
- Tips on:
- Balancing workload with life
- Time management, travel, getting/asking for help, and tech tricks
- Emotions/anxieties/overwhelm
- Community building best practices
- Questions & answers–attendee idea swap
Note that there are two available sessions. Come to one or both! (Though again, this is optional.)
Friday, Sept. 11th, 11:30am to 12:30pm ET via Zoom
Sunday, Sept 13th, 6:00 to 7:00pm ET via Zoom
This program will not be recorded nor will transcripts be shared. An aggregated summary of the sessions’ main points will be shared with all enrolled Intensives students approximately a week after the orientation sessions.
This class will take place using Zoom videoconferencing. After registering, a yellow Resources tab will appear in this section containing a link to join class. Please note that you will need to be logged into view the Resources tab.
Zoom Participation:
In our experience, the intimate nature of a writing workshop benefits from on-camera participation. Students are of course welcome to turn their camera off whenever they need to, but it is a community norm for cameras to be on most of the time. You can learn more about using Zoom here.
Zoom Accessibility:
You can enable closed captioning at any time during the meeting by clicking the CC button at the bottom of the screen. If you'd like to access the transcript after class, please make sure to let your instructor ahead of time that you'd like a copy.
