Instructor Lisa Braxton will lead participants through a craft-focused discussion of Kaia Alderson's Sisters in Arms, a heartwarming and fierce novel historical novel about Black servicewomen in World War II.
In this discussion, we'll focus on the craft of creating believable and authentic historical fiction. How do you balance writing a realistic evocation of a historical era with a story that current-day readers can identify with? How do you create characters and themes that are relevant across time? Together, we'll identify how Kaia Alderson achieves this to different effects throughout the book, and how we can apply the lessons learned from her novel to our own work..
