Special Series
2025 Write-A-Thon Participant Spotlight: Arlene Flores

Welcome to GrubStreet’s FREE Write-A-Thon Challenge! Over the course of May, we invite you to dedicate 30 hours to your writing practice.
We hope that your writing hours this upcoming month will be filled with momentum and inspiration as we work together to reach our writing goals! We are in awe of the over 200 members of our community who have signed up already.
We want to introduce one of those dedicated writers, Arlene Flores! We asked her to share a few words on her experience last year and what she is looking forward to this month.
"My sister Angelica and I have been attending GrubStreet for a few years now, and when I received the email about the first ever GrubStreet Write-A-Thon I was super excited because Grubstreet has always been a very supportive and inspirational space for writers. Last year's Write-A-Thon was more than what I expected, I felt welcome and supported in every writing session with a special thanks to Julian Iralu who was always there to support us in any way possible.
At the end of the challenge, we had a wonderful celebration. I enjoyed the delicious cake, the food, and interviews with the authors, Theresa Okokon and Elizabeth Santiago.
I am excited to join again this year because I know about the amazing support and motivation that GrubStreet always provides to its writers no matter what stage they are in their journey. And I am excited to meet new writing friends."
We are so thrilled to have Arlene and all this year's Write-A-Thoners join us for this ambitious collective goal: 6,000 total writing hours as a community to amplify the importance of making creative writing accessible. Register here if you want to be part of the 2025 Write-A-Thon.
