As I enter my final year as Executive Director of GrubStreet, I am filled with deep gratitude for this inspiring community of writers. Like you, I am a fierce advocate and believer in the power of writing and sharing our stories to bridge differences, build community, and inspire learning and growth.
Our mission has never been more urgent.
In this moment of deep polarization and attacks on our civil rights, stories from writers who represent both the diversity and connectedness of our world are needed to cut through division, articulate our common humanity, and help us envision pathways toward a more just and connected world. With your crucial support, this year and beyond, we will expand opportunities for our high school students and adult writers.
At GrubStreet, we believe every writing student benefits from an inclusive environment that centers each student’s lived experience. Through scholarships, fellowships, and free programming, we remove barriers to ensure talented writers with economic need — including folks from historically marginalized backgrounds and communities underrepresented or silenced in the literary industry — have space, time, and resources to develop and share their stories.
Thank you for being a leader in this work. Though my role is changing, my deep connection and commitment to this writing community remain. I look forward to championing GrubStreet’s next chapter and supporting the leadership that will guide us into the future.
