Young Adult Writers Program (YAWP): Weird Fiction

No Longer Enrolling

  • $0.00 Non-Member
  • $0.00 Member

Class Description

This workshop is all about testing the limits of fiction. Some of the most exciting writing crosses the boundaries between genres: science fiction and realism, horror and fantasy, prose and poetry, fiction and non-fiction. We'll look at writing from Kelly Link to H.P. Lovecraft and everywhere in between. All styles and genres are welcome, but students must come with a passion for bending (and breaking) the “rules” of fiction.

Join Grub Street’s Young Adult Writers Program (YAWP), a FREE creative writing workshop for Boston-area high schoolers. Our students come from a wide variety of high schools in the Boston area, and enjoy cool writing exercises, mingling with fellow young writers, snacks, and an optional open mic. After four great years YAWP has already been recognized by the Boston Globe as Boston's hub for writing teenagers.
YOU MUST BE IN HIGH SCHOOL TO REGISTER-- NO EXCEPTIONS.

Zoom Participation:

In our experience, the intimate nature of a writing workshop benefits from on-camera participation. Students are of course welcome to turn their camera off whenever they need to, but it is a community norm for cameras to be on most of the time. You can learn more about using Zoom here.

Zoom Accessibility:

You can enable closed captioning at any time during the meeting by clicking the CC button at the bottom of the screen. If you'd like to access the transcript after class, please make sure to let your instructor ahead of time that you'd like a copy.
