Class Description
This workshop will focus on writing where something HAPPENS. All fiction, from naturalistic realism to suspense and horror, needs action to excite the reader. The class’s focus on action will encompass not only physical force and danger, but also the subtle decisions that characters make, and the intense emotions that drive them. Writers will focus on crafting scenes with tension, excitement, passion, danger, drama, and adventure. Fans of ALL genres will benefit! The workshop will feature in-class writing prompts, as well as examples and readings of action scenes by James Dickey, Cormac McCarthy, Tim O’Brien, Flannery O’Connor, and other authors.
