Class Description: Feel nervous about how to slam? Not sure about the rules or how to prep for a performance? This workshop will walk participants through what a poetry slam is and how to prepare for a performance (competitive or not). We will review difference techniques, tips, and tricks to help you feel your best and most ready for whatever and wherever you may perform!
Takeaways: You will leave with more confidence in performance and how to compete in/navigate a poetry slam. You will learn about the history and legacy of spoken word poetry and slam poetry.
Who Should Register?
For high school writers age 13 - 18 ONLY. Writing notebooks will be available, but feel free to bring your own.

Parents/guardians must also complete this permission form online if your teen is under 18. **Note: unlike previous forms, you only need to fill this out ONE TIME, not for every class. If you cannot remember whether you have already filled it out, please email [email protected] and we will check for you!
Thanks to the excellent literary citizenship of our donors, scholarships are available for all GrubStreet classes. To apply, click the gray "APPLY FOR SCHOLARSHIP" button. In order to be considered for a scholarship, you must complete your application at least one week before the start date of a class. Please await our scholarship committee's decision before registering for the class. We cannot hold spots in classes, so the sooner you apply, the better. Scholarships cannot be applied retroactively.

Zoom Accessibility:
We ask that instructors enable closed captioning and send a transcript of the session after class. You can also enable closed captioning at any time during the meeting. If your instructor forgets to send the transcript, just send ’em an email!
