Class Description

This class is free and you do not need to pay or apply for a scholarship. Instead, to join this class fill out This Form. DO NOT use any of the other buttons or links to apply to this class.

What if your writing didn’t need to be explained or translated? What if you could bring all of your different intersections to the page? In these sessions we’ll allow ourselves to write for and to those who get it. We’ll step outside the box of what is deemed acceptable in writing. As multilingual contemporary writers, we will read, discuss, and dissect published works of multilingual authors, and write to prompts where our many languages will flow seamlessly to create deeper meaning and more poetry in our work. We’ll do this without othering ourselves; there’ll be no italics, definitions, or bolds. We’ll be our multilayered selves in our writing, without apology or assimilation needed. Our voices will be heard by our intended audience. Over the course of this class, we will recenter ourselves in our work and discussions, read multilingual authors, and review our works in progress to ensure they embody our whole selves. This workshop is open to writers of all levels and experience!

Zoom Participation:

In our experience, the intimate nature of a writing workshop benefits from on-camera participation. Students are of course welcome to turn their camera off whenever they need to, but it is a community norm for cameras to be on most of the time. You can learn more about using Zoom here.

Zoom Accessibility:

You can enable closed captioning at any time during the meeting by clicking the CC button at the bottom of the screen. If you'd like to access the transcript after class, please make sure to let your instructor ahead of time that you'd like a copy.
