Are you ready to push your work to the next level? Maybe you’re a veteran of Write Down the Street classes, have generated a lot of rough drafts, and want to spend time revising and polishing a short story, essay, or novel chapter with input from fellow writers. Or perhaps you’re an experienced writer and workshop participant who seeks the structure, insights, and accountability of a dynamic, diverse, and culturally competent writing community. This 6-week workshop is designed to meet more experienced students’ needs for revision and feedback. It’s also an opportunity to further develop the skills you need to be critical readers of your own and others’ work.
The beginning of class will explore new strategies for revision and honing your critical response skills by discussing and writing about published fiction and memoir. Group exercises and discussions will also build trust and help us cohere as a group. After that, the majority of our class sessions will be dedicated to workshopping participants’ short stories, novel chapters, or creative nonfiction essays of up to 25 pages long. Each student will have at least two opportunities to get structured feedback on their work from the instructor and the other students. Participants are required to enter the class with a draft they wish to revise towards completion. Class participants are expected to spend 5-10 hours a week outside of class revising their work and reading and responding to the work of others.
This class is limited to 10 participants.
Families welcome. Coffee and snacks provided. Teens are welcome to attend with an older relative. We will provide simple activities to keep young children occupied.

Write Down the Street has a special focus on making the creative writing workshop more accessible to those who face challenges due to cost, language skills, lack of access to transportation, and other barriers. We believe that all voices must be spotlighted with the range and fullness they deserve.

Thanks to the excellent literary citizenship of our donors, scholarships are available for all GrubStreet classes. To apply, click the gray "APPLY FOR SCHOLARSHIP" button. In order to be considered for a scholarship, you must complete your application at least one week before the start date of a class. Please await our scholarship committee's decision before registering for the class. We cannot hold spots in classes, so the sooner you apply, the better. Scholarships cannot be applied retroactively.
