Class Description

Want to read a selection of the most contemporary short stories together, with weekly discussions and creative writing exercises, accountability, and low-pressure workshops? Let's read the Best American Short Stories 2021, edited by Jesmyn Ward, together. Each week, we will read one story, then come together for a focused discussion on what it has to teach us about the craft and practice of the contemporary fiction writer. On the basis of each chapter, you will receive a creative writing exercise, and we will share and workshop our exercises in class.

We will read a wide variety of contemporary fiction writers together, and analyse what these writers have to teach us about story-writing today. You can find out more about the book here!
Please Note: Class does not meet on April 18th.

Class Format

This class will take place using Zoom videoconferencing. About 15 minutes before your class is scheduled to begin, you'll receive an email from your instructor with a link to join the class meeting!
