Class Description
You’ve got a brilliant screenplay idea, and an outline…now what? It’s time to finish that draft!
In this fast-paced class, we will write and workshop 4-5 scenes per week, focusing on how to keep every scene engaging and moving the story forward. Toward that end, we’ll read and analyze an award-winning screenplay (potential screenwriters include Greta Gerwig, Ryan Coogler, and Spike Lee). Each week, we will also dive deep into a particular craft topic such as 3-act structure, character, dialogue, genre, world building, and revision tactics, applying what we learn to both our own writing and our feedback to each other. You will leave this class having made significant progress on (or even completed!) your first draft, as well as a strategy for revision.
This class is ideal for students who have completed GrubStreet’s ‘Intro to Screenwriting’ class, or have a feature-length screenplay beatsheet and/or outline ready to go.
*NOTE that while our handy dandy "Schedule" tab states a 6-7pm class time, there are actually no live meetings for this class! Assignments will be given on a weekly basis. Students will have access to the online class portal starting at 5pm on the first day of class. Instructions for logging onto the online portal will be emailed to registered students before 5pm the first day of class.
Thanks to the excellent literary citizenship of our donors, scholarships are available for all GrubStreet classes. To apply, click the gray "APPLY FOR SCHOLARSHIP" button. In order to be considered for a scholarship, you must complete your application at least one week before the start date of a class.
