Class Description

It is said that a typical contemporary novel has twelve major scenes. In this course, we will plant the seeds for six of those scenes. You may have a novel in progress or you may be starting out with only an idea. Either way, in this course, the goal is to come out of this course with 6 scenes that will move your story forward. Each week, we will explore a different type of scene and the elements involved, and then put what we learn to practice when we write our own scenes. You will have the opportunity to receive feedback on your novel several times throughout the course of the class, and because novel-writing is as much about process as the end product, we will also discuss our own writing processes, including how we plan, how to hold ourselves accountable to writing, etc. You will leave the class six scenes closer to a draft of your novel, and the tools to finish it.

*NOTE that while our handy dandy "Schedule" tab states a 6-7pm class time, there are actually no live meetings for this class! Weekly lessons and assignments open each Wednesday. Students will receive an invitation to Wet Ink, our online class platform, before 5pm on the first day of class.
