Class Description

For Intensives program alumni only, this online class will focus on workshops with deep revision in mind, all designed to better prepare a manuscript for query or submission. Each writer will receive group feedback on three 50-page segments of their memoir, along with revision tips and strategies from the instructor. Each participant will also receive a 20-minute one-on-one instructor consultation at the end of the course, as well as a free Manuscript Mart appointment during Manuscript Month in May of 2026.
Enrollment for this class is open and application-free; however, writers registering for this course will benefit the most if they have a complete/mostly complete memoir draft.
From the instructor, Michelle Bowdler: “I have heard from many Memoir Incubator and generator alums that some additional time, structure and feedback would be beneficial to them as they continue to work on their manuscripts. I am very excited to be part of this new offering by Grub to bring alums together to have their books workshopped with a group of writers who care deeply about continuing to develop their books.”
NOTE: a limited number of 50% scholarships are available. We strongly recommend applying ASAP, as we’re unable to hold spots before they sell out.

Zoom Participation:
In our experience, the intimate nature of a writing workshop benefits from on-camera participation. Students are of course welcome to turn their camera off whenever they need to, but it is a community norm for cameras to be on most of the time. You can learn more about using Zoom here.
Zoom Accessibility:
You can enable closed captioning at any time during the meeting by clicking the CC button at the bottom of the screen. If you'd like to access the transcript after class, please make sure to let your instructor ahead of time that you'd like a copy.
