Class Description

If you find yourself daydreaming about time travel on your commute, setting ghost stories in the old houses on your block, or fantasizing about what comes out to play in the public gardens at midnight, you will love this class. We'll spend ten weeks charging up your imagination and getting you inspired to either finish that manuscript in progress or start work on a brand new one. Each week we will study a different element of Magical Fiction, be it setting, narrative voice, timeline, believability, or flexible reality. We will read classic voices from the genre, such as Gabriel Garcia Marquez and Kurt Vonnegut, as well as modern writers such as Margaret Atwood and Neil Gaiman. And we'll devote a couple of classes to workshopping your writing, with in-depth feedback from the instructor and your peers. If you are stuck in a rut with your writing or simply bursting with ideas and no clue how to begin, this class will help get you fired up and on the path to building your own fantastic tales.

Please note: There will be no class on 4/7.
