Class Description
Whether you’re a mic-grabbing storyteller, a head-in-the-clouds poet, a late-night-journaler, an easy blusher, an activist, a soccer player who’s writing a 300-page novel on the side, or a little of each, or none of the above: this every-level & all-genre creative teen camp is for you. Each day begins with a warm-up (often a game) before we cycle through wildly varied, surprisingly energizing prompts (poetry, fiction, and nonfiction).
On fine days we’ll head to the Public Garden. After a 45 minute lunch break, we’ll spend generous downtime during which students can browse Grub Street’s library for inspiration, freely write, and collaboratively revise. We’ll close by workshopping—(optionally) reading drafts and offering comments out loud—every day. Expect to come away with more than a dozen new starts to stories, poems and flash essays, as well as special tricks from your instructor, teen publishing tips, and new writer friendships. The week will conclude with a special-invite (family and friends) reading. Writing notebooks will be available, but feel free to bring your own. For writers age 13-18 ONLY.

Zoom Participation:
In our experience, the intimate nature of a writing workshop benefits from on-camera participation. Students are of course welcome to turn their camera off whenever they need to, but it is a community norm for cameras to be on most of the time. You can learn more about using Zoom here.
Zoom Accessibility:
You can enable closed captioning at any time during the meeting by clicking the CC button at the bottom of the screen. If you'd like to access the transcript after class, please make sure to let your instructor ahead of time that you'd like a copy.
