Class Description

[Classes marked as “full” can still have scholarship spots available. So apply! More information is listed below.]

Class Description:

Get writing in this week-long teen class! Whether you’re working on fiction, memoir pieces, poetry, plays, articles or even song lyrics, this class offers the opportunity to improve your skills, while also experimenting with different writing forms. Each day will be filled with writing and reading exercises designed to help jump start and build upon your creativity. In particular, you will learn how to appeal to each of the five senses in your pieces, so that your audience will have a whole body experience when they read or listen to your work. We will also discuss how to get to know our characters in our pieces, and play with language in your poems and prose. By the end of the week, you'll have your toolbox full of ideas and several pieces of writing you can be proud of and continue to add to long after the class is over. This course is geared toward enthusiastic, energetic and open-minded writers all of experience levels. Writing notebooks will be available, but feel free to bring your own. For writers age 13 - 18 ONLY.

Parents/guardians must also complete this permission form online before the start of the class.

SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES:

GrubStreet is happy to be able to offer a limited number of full scholarships for our teen writing camps. To apply for a scholarship, please click the "APPLY FOR SCHOLARSHIP" link above, and complete the online form describing why you want to take the teen writing camp and detailing your financial need. Please wait to hear from our Scholarship committee before registering for the class, as scholarships cannot be applied retroactively. The deadline to apply for this scholarship is Wednesday, July 18th at 5pm.

*If you are registering on behalf of your teen, add their email information in the “For a Friend or Child?” field on the right-hand side of the screen before you check out. This will send them a direct link and reminder to create their own profile with GrubStreet.

(After adding the class to your cart, click "Checkout" and click “Add” next to “For a Friend or Child?” on the right-hand side to fill in their email. This is an easy way of linking the class to your child and encourages them to create their own account.)

Scholarships Format/Location

Thanks to the excellent literary citizenship of our donors, scholarships are available for all GrubStreet classes. To apply, click the gray "APPLY FOR SCHOLARSHIP" button. In order to be considered for a scholarship, you must complete your application at least one week before the start date of a class.
