Class Description

This workshop is for advanced poets who want to develop new poems, deepen their craft, and build a supportive writing community. We’ll explore the core elements of poetry: language, the line, form, rhythm, and what we need to do with these elements to build the life of a poem. We'll learn from our classmates and the work of other published poets, to inspire risk, invention, and creativity in our own poems. Throughout this course we'll write ten poems, with weekly opportunities and prompts for revision. We’ll engage in weekly poetry workshops focused on collective care and attention for each other’s work, with an openness and curiosity for how to further evolve our work. A subset of this course will also focus on strategies for putting our work into the world via readings, online and print submissions, chapbooks/collections, and fellowship/grant applications. The poets whose works we’ll explore may include Lucille Clifton, Ocean Vuong, Natalie Diaz, Joy Harjo, Adrienne Rich, Evie Shockley, Li-Young Lee, Terrance Hayes, Chen Chen, Robert Hayden, yours, and many others. This class is by submission only and previous workshop experience is highly recommended.
Please note: Class does not meet Tuesday, July 15.

Zoom Accessibility:
You can enable closed captioning at any time during the meeting by clicking the CC button at the bottom of the screen. If you'd like to access the transcript after class, please make sure to let your instructor ahead of time that you'd like a copy.
