Class Description

This workshop is designed for experienced writers working in any form of creative nonfiction—from personal essays to literary journalism, lyric experiments, and hybrid narratives. Together, we’ll support one another in deepening works-in-progress, experimenting with form, voice, and structure, and refining craft at a high level. Through prompts, exercises, readings, and conversation, you’ll discover new ways of approaching your material and fresh strategies for revision.
Each writer will share work with the group at least twice for thoughtful, in-depth feedback from classmates and the instructor. Our discussions will focus on what’s working and on the specific questions and goals each writer brings to the table.
Alongside workshop discussions, we’ll read a range of contemporary and classic nonfiction by writers such as MFK Fisher, Zora Neale-Hurston, Alice Walker, Joan Didion, Brian Doyle, and others, examining how they turn truth-telling into good storytelling.
With a small group limited to nine students, this workshop offers a rigorous yet supportive space for experienced nonfiction writers eager to push their work—and their understanding of the genre—even further.
The application deadline for this class is Monday, January 5th, at 11:59PM (EST). Late submissions will not be reviewed or receive a response. All applicants can expect to hear back within one week of the application deadline. The enrollment deadline for admitted students is Wednesday, January 14th.

Zoom Accessibility:
You can enable closed captioning at any time during the meeting by clicking the CC button at the bottom of the screen. If you'd like to access the transcript after class, please make sure to let your instructor ahead of time that you'd like a copy.
