Class Description

Create

Whether you're looking to experiment, produce new works for a collection, or work on revisions, this workshop offers the opportunity to broaden and deepen your knowledge of poetry. Each week, you will study the craft and vision of contemporary poets and respond to a prompt given in-class. You will share two poems a week, one from the in-class writing exercise and something else you’ve revised at home. This class will allow you to break old habits. It will give you space to play with forms both conventional and unconventional from aubade to zuihitsu. And, most importantly, you will leave the course with both fresh and revised drafts of many poems! We'll be looking at work by Layli Long Soldier, Don Mee Choi, Naomi Replansky, Kimiko Hahn, Wanda Coleman, Juliana Spahr, and Ross Gay.

Please note: Class will not meet on Friday, November 29th.

Writing Roadmap: We've created a simple, goal-based writing roadmap to help you find the perfect GrubStreet course for your writing needs.

Zoom Participation:

In our experience, the intimate nature of a writing workshop benefits from on-camera participation. Students are of course welcome to turn their camera off whenever they need to, but it is a community norm for cameras to be on most of the time. You can learn more about using Zoom here.

Zoom Accessibility:

You can enable closed captioning at any time during the meeting by clicking the CC button at the bottom of the screen. If you'd like to access the transcript after class, please make sure to let your instructor ahead of time that you'd like a copy.
