Class Description
This class will be hosted remotely! You will be able to participate in class via Zoom videoconference from wherever you’re most comfortable. All you’ll need is a laptop or a phone! About 15 minutes before your class is scheduled to begin, you'll receive an email from your instructor with a link to join the class meeting via Zoom–no need to download anything or sign up for Zoom in advance! We’re doing something new during May’s YAWP Saturday and hosting a whole afternoon dedicated to working on submissions! On YAWP Saturdays we usually focus on generating new work, so this month we want to give you all time to learn some editing tips, get information about literary magazines you can submit to, and prepare pieces for submitting!
Each hour we’ll have optional sessions on different topics, lists of literary magazines that accept teen writing, as well as instructors available for any questions regarding submitting and prepping portfolios. We’ll also have Visa gift cards available to offset any potential submission costs.
From 12 to 1pm author and instructor Jenn De Leon will be talking about writing her book and going through the editing process, with time for questions.
From 1 to 2pm we'll have writing prompts rotating every 15 minutes. You can choose to try out as many or as few as you like!
From 2 to 3pm we'll be discussing strategies for submitting to fellowships and literary journals.
For writers ages 13 - 18 ONLY.
This class is now remote! Students who register will be sent a link to join the online sessions shortly before class begins.
Remember, parents/guardians must also complete this permission form online before the start of the class. Otherwise, registrations could be voided and the cancellation policy will apply. If the student is 18, simply let us know at [email protected]
*If you are registering on behalf of your teen, add their email information in the “For a Friend or Child?” field on the right-hand side of the screen before you check out. This will send them a direct link and reminder to create their own profile with GrubStreet.

Thanks to the excellent literary citizenship of our donors, scholarships are available for all GrubStreet classes. To apply, click the gray "APPLY FOR SCHOLARSHIP" button. In order to be considered for a scholarship, you must complete your application at least one week before the start date of a class. Please await our scholarship committee's decision before registering for the class. We cannot hold spots in classes, so the sooner you apply, the better. Scholarships cannot be applied retroactively.

Zoom Participation:
Students are not required to turn their camera on, but are encouraged to participate any way they feel comfortable through functions such as the live chat, emoji reactions, and unmuting the microphone. Learn more about using Zoom here.
Zoom Accessibility:
We ask that instructors enable closed captioning and send a transcript of the session after class. You can also enable closed captioning at any time during the meeting. If your instructor forgets to send the transcript, just send ’em an email!
