Writing Three-Dimensional Scenes

No Longer Enrolling

Class Description

Do you dread writing descriptions? If you want a better balance of dialogue, action, and setting in your writing, this one-day seminar will offer craft examples, writing exercises, and structures to help you set the scene. We'll take a look at some examples from writers such as N.K. Jemisin, Italo Calvino, Heather Fawcett, Pan Huiting, Leigh Bardugo, and others. We'll focus on using setting as a powerful tool to help readers engage in your writing, as well as a source of inspiration in the writing process itself. By the end of this seminar you'll have new sentence frames to kickstart scenes and different strategies for approaching a description of a new place in your work. We'll also learn strategies to weave setting into the narrative in order to build more three-dimensional scenes. Writers of fiction and nonfiction are welcome to attend.
