Class Description

It's a writing jam session hoedown hootenanny! Yes, we'll all be locked up in a room together for six hours, trying a variety of exercises, stunts, prompts, and out-of-the-box writing workouts to get you to try new things in a variety of genres (fiction, nonfiction, poetry, flash, list, funny, etc). We'll share a little as we go, offering off-the-cuff feedback and encouraging each other to push each piece further, for revision later. During the final chunk of class, you'll pick one of the prompts to fully develop into a longer piece. For writers looking for a low-risk, high-yield investment for their writing, ways to become "un-stuck," and an opportunity to try out new voices, modes, and ways to "jam" and "riff" as writer.

Scholarships Format/Location

Thanks to the excellent literary citizenship of our donors, scholarships are available for all GrubStreet classes. To apply, click the gray "APPLY FOR SCHOLARSHIP" button. In order to be considered for a scholarship, you must complete your application at least one week before the start date of a class. Please await our scholarship committee's decision before registering for the class. We cannot hold spots in classes, so the sooner you apply, the better. Scholarships cannot be applied retroactively.

For more detailed information about GrubStreet scholarships, including how to contribute to scholarship funds for other students, click here.

This class will take place using Zoom videoconferencing. About 15 minutes before your class is scheduled to begin, you'll receive an email from your instructor with a link to join the class meeting!
