Class Description

In the past few years of restricted travel, along with our relatively new attempts to squeeze full, multi-layered lives into our homes, many of us have been spending time reflecting on places we’ve been. Perhaps we are attaching new meaning to our former journeys. Maybe we have collected new wisdom about travel while in the act of stationary living. In this class, we will begin to write about these past places and reflect on how they have shaped who we are today. Through in-class writing and exercises, we will bolster our personal experience with strong narrative structure, turning our travel memories into stories. We will begin to see how our perception of our travel has also changed over time. We will look at what those journeys might have changed within us.

Most importantly, we will use this time together to begin at least one piece of creative nonfiction and to plant the hopeful seeds for travels to come!

Zoom Participation:

In our experience, the intimate nature of a writing workshop benefits from on-camera participation. Students are of course welcome to turn their camera off whenever they need to, but it is a community norm for cameras to be on most of the time. You can learn more about using Zoom here.

Zoom Accessibility:

You can enable closed captioning at any time during the meeting by clicking the CC button at the bottom of the screen. If you'd like to access the transcript after class, please make sure to let your instructor ahead of time that you'd like a copy.
