Strategizing for Publication Success

Class Description

Everyone knows that succeeding as a writer isn’t easy and that rejection in our business is rampant. By focusing on ways to organize our writing practice, we can improve our chances of success. In this clinic-style seminar, we will articulate our goals and create concrete paths toward achieving them. We will discuss best strategies at each stage of writing: when to share drafts and with whom; how to set up a reliable system for magazine submissions; how to strategize about, and take steps toward, getting a literary agent; how to write a concise cover letter; how and when to apply to writer’s colonies, conferences, and fellowships; and how best to generate more than one writing project at a time without undermining our efforts. With these and other concrete suggestions, we’ll set up our professional writing practices, increasing our chances for success even before our very first publication.

Scholarship Information

Thanks to the excellent literary citizenship of our donors, scholarships are available for all GrubStreet classes. To apply, click the gray "APPLY FOR SCHOLARSHIP" button. In order to be considered for a scholarship, you must complete your application at least one week before the start date of a class. Please await our scholarship committee's decision before registering for the class. We cannot hold spots in classes, so the sooner you apply, the better. Scholarships cannot be applied retroactively.
