Class Description

Have a piece of writing that you're looking to get feedback on, but don't want to enroll in a weeks-long class? Hoping to gather instant broad-scale feedback on your work, but don't have time for homework or assignments? Then this workshop is for you!

In this Lightning Workshop, students will bring in a piece of writing that they're seeking feedback on. We will read the work together in class, then offer feedback in class. Guided by the instructor, be prepared to: listen as the author reads their work aloud; gather your thoughts; and provide on-the-spot feedback. You'll receive on-the-spot overall feedback in return! We will begin the class with reflections from the instructor on the art and practice of revision, and conclude with time to implement some of the workshop suggestions into your manuscript.
Perfect for flash fiction, as well as excerpts of short stories and novels.

*Note that the page count we can accommodate will depend on the number of enrollees in the course. Approx. 5-15 double-spaced pages is the sweet spot for this workshop. If you have a very long story, we won't be able to workshop the whole thing, but you are very welcome to bring in an excerpt!

*Note that we will be able to offer feedback on the work's structure, development, character, voice, point of view, and concept, but we will not be offering line-level feedback in this workshop.
Scholarships Format/Location

Thanks to the excellent literary citizenship of our donors, scholarships are available for all GrubStreet classes. To apply, click the gray "APPLY FOR SCHOLARSHIP" button. In order to be considered for a scholarship, you must complete your application at least one week before the start date of a class. Please await our scholarship committee's decision before registering for the class. We cannot hold spots in classes, so the sooner you apply, the better. Scholarships cannot be applied retroactively.
