Class Description

The time has come: college application season. Don’t worry, we’re here to help! In this one-day class, you will plan, write, and revise a college application essay. We’ll mine for material, write about our life experiences in compelling ways, figure out the best strategies for responding to the Common App prompts, read and discuss essays that actually worked, and share our writing and ideas in a small group setting. Remember: your personal statement is a great opportunity to stand out among the stacks of applications that college admissions officers read every year. So make every word count. In addition to getting essential tips on content, structure, and style, you will also have the chance to workshop your essay and receive instructor feedback. Our goal by the end of the day is to create a strong working draft of a college essay, and gain the confidence to revise and complete it at home.

Scholarships Format/Location

Thanks to the excellent literary citizenship of our donors, scholarships are available for all GrubStreet classes. To apply, click the gray "APPLY FOR SCHOLARSHIP" button. In order to be considered for a scholarship, you must complete your application at least one week before the start date of a class. Please await our scholarship committee's decision before registering for the class. We cannot hold spots in classes, so the sooner you apply, the better. Scholarships cannot be applied retroactively.
