Class Description

We all have an opinion in the aftermath of the election, but how does a writer take his or her impassioned response and turn it into a 700-word publishable, thoughtful commentary? How can you make your voice stand out above the rest? In this three-hour seminar, we'll look at how to generate ideas for effective op-eds that have broad appeal due to their passion and expertise. Then, we'll discuss the specifics of how to write an op-ed meant to inspire change, how to pitch your pieces, and where to submit them.

Scholarships Format/Location

Thanks to the excellent literary citizenship of our donors, scholarships are available for all GrubStreet classes. To apply, click the gray "APPLY FOR SCHOLARSHIP" button. In order to be considered for a scholarship, you must complete your application at least one week before the start date of a class. Please await our scholarship committee's decision before registering for the class. We cannot hold spots in classes, so the sooner you apply, the better. Scholarships cannot be applied retroactively.

Zoom Participation:
