Class Description

The Grub Book Club offers a chance to read and discuss great books with a focus on reading from a writer's perspective. The book club's next pick is the novel The Obituary Writer by Ann Hood. Grub Street instructor Kate Racculia will lead a discussion on The Obituary Writer for the first hour, and we'll then be joined by author Ann Hood for an informal Q&A about her novel. "Hood's language is fine and supple, the settings are lusciously rendered, the melancholy air is seductive... and her intricate inquiry into grief, guilt and love is haunting." -- Booklist "It is a rare novelist who can summon the creative nerve to plumb the depths of grief, but that's just what Ann Hood does here with such compassion and grace." --Andre Dubus III, author of Townie and The House of Sand and Fog "Hood's fluent storytelling and empathy will ensure popularity." -- Kirkus Must be a current Grub Street member to attend, and members are invited to bring friends.
