Class Description

Have an idea for a graphic novel or comic, but not sure where to go from there? In this seminar, you will learn how to take a graphic novel or comic series idea and turn it into a reality. We will discuss how to write with pictures, how to collaborate with an artist, and the standard format for writing comics. We will go over the step-by-step process of making a comic by looking at examples of scripts, artist sketches from those scripts, and the final published comic. Then you’ll practice the comic script format while fleshing out your idea. In the final hour, we’ll cover how to find an artist, publishing options for graphic novels and comics, as well as how to market the work, including the dos and don’ts at comic conventions. Students will leave class having learned how to translate their idea for a graphic novel or comic into script form, how to collaborate with an artist, and how to get their comic out into the world once it’s done.
