Class Description
Students will spend this seminar responding to various nonfiction prompts in order to generate personal essays/memoir as well as more reflective forms of nonfiction writing. We will be asking questions like: What differentiates the personal essay or memoir from other forms of nonfiction? What is the role of the first person in creative nonfiction? How do we write our own stories truthfully in the age of fake news? The goal of this seminar is to spend as much time writing as possible.
This is a good class for students who have written/experimented with some form of creative nonfiction in the past and would like to spend time working on generative writing exercises that might yield beginnings to personal essays or other longer work . Sharing work will be encouraged but is completely voluntary.
This class will be hosted using live Zoom meetings! You will be able to participate in class via Zoom videoconference from wherever you’re most comfortable. All you’ll need is a laptop or a phone! About 15 minutes before your class is scheduled to begin, you'll receive an email from your instructor with a link to join the class meeting via Zoom–no need to download anything or sign up for Zoom in advance!
