Embrace Your Weird

Class Description

Weird, "of strange or extraordinary character" – the things that make you weird or different are the things that can infuse your writing with a singular flair. This class is a permission slip to excavate the oddities within you to create magic on the page. We will explore the strange from three angles: Character, Setting, and Ritual. We will write through guided, out of the box writing exercises, in a space to share your work in the company of other self-proclaimed weirdos. This generative class is well suited for all writers who want to push past the confines of realism, or “normal.”

You should expect to walk away with a collection of story seeds, distinct characters, scene descriptions, and a new found confidence in weaving your unique point of view into all of your writing. Writers of fiction, nonfiction, screenwriting, and playwriting, are welcome.

Class Format

This class will take place using Zoom videoconferencing. About 15 minutes before your class is scheduled to begin, you'll receive an email from your instructor with a link to join the class meeting!

Scholarship Information

Thanks to the excellent literary citizenship of our donors, scholarships are available for all GrubStreet classes. To apply, click the gray "APPLY FOR SCHOLARSHIP" button. In order to be considered for a scholarship, you must complete your application at least one week before the start date of a class. Please await our scholarship committee's decision before registering for the class. We cannot hold spots in classes, so the sooner you apply, the better. Scholarships cannot be applied retroactively.
