Class Description
Many of the greatest books on earth have endured specifically because their authors were willing to write about subjects that we all think about but that society has classified as taboo. Without exception, the decision to write about these subjects liberated them and took their work to the next level. In this seminar, we'll ask students to do the same thing, by looking at examples from Cheryl Strayed, Nabokov, Jeannette Walls, and others, and doing an in-class exercise. The class will be especially useful for writers who have been struggling to allow themselves to write about topics that feel forbidden, but should be fun regardless. Come ready to let it rip.

In order to be considered for a scholarship, you must complete your application at least one week before the start date of a class. Please await our scholarship committee's decision before registering for the class. We cannot hold spots in classes, so the sooner you apply, the better. Scholarships cannot be applied retroactively.

Zoom Participation:
In our experience, the intimate nature of a writing workshop benefits from on-camera participation. Students are of course welcome to turn their camera off whenever they need to, but it is a community norm for cameras to be on most of the time. You can learn more about using Zoom here.
