About Anne
Anne Horowitz is a Brooklyn-based independent editor of fiction, memoir, and creative nonfiction. She got her start in publishing as an associate editor at Counterpoint/Soft Skull Press, where she worked for five years. Since 2011, she has worked as a freelance editor with the literary agent Renée Zuckerbrot, first at Renée Zuckerbrot Agency and, since 2016, at Massie & McQuilkin Agency. Other past and current clients for developmental editing include Seal Press, Book*Hug, Creative Nonfiction/In Fact Books, First Second Books/Macmillan, Library Journal, and various literary agents and authors. Anne also works as a copyeditor for various publishing houses (clients include Tin House Books, Knopf, Spiegel & Grau, Grove, Milkweed Editions, and others), and she brings a careful, detail-oriented eye to all her editing projects. She has been a five-time editorial mentor in the Emerging Writers Fellowship Program at the Center for Fiction in New York and was a longtime mentor for Creative Nonfiction as well, in their manuscript evaluation program and other programming. Anne joined the independent editors' collective 5E in 2024. She enjoys working with both established and first-time authors and strives to be a thoughtful, constructive, and supportive reader for the writers she works with.
