I’m a memoirist, essayist, editor, and writing teacher whose work has appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, Poets & Writers, The Rumpus, Los Angeles Review, and elsewhere. I teach memoir and personal essay at GrubStreet and work one-on-one with writers at every stage of the writing process. I specialize in memoir, personal essay, and book-length narrative nonfiction, helping writers identify the story beneath the draft. Whether a writer is shaping an early draft, revising a full manuscript, preparing a book proposal, or getting ready to query agents, I offer direct, thoughtful, craft-focused feedback that strengthens the work while remaining true to the writer’s own voice. My editorial approach is rooted in curiosity rather than prescription. Rather than telling writers what to write, I help them discover the deeper story beneath the draft and develop a clear revision strategy. I regularly work with memoirists and narrative nonfiction writers on developmental editing, manuscript evaluations, book proposals, query letters, and publication strategy. I especially enjoy projects that combine compelling storytelling with larger questions about identity, family, history, memory, and belonging.
