Class Description:

When we read our favorite pieces from other writers, it's often forgotten that what we're looking at is only the final product of unknown countless hours of reflection, note-taking, and planning.

In this class we will focus on pre-writing, arguably one of the most important stages in one’s writing process, regardless of genre or medium. Together we'll tackle various outlining techniques in order to gain inspiration, brainstorm and map ideas, and hone in on the purpose of our pieces. By compartmentalizing and appreciating the many moving parts of our stories, we can gain more confidence in our ability to tell them.

This class is intended for anyone with an interest in outlining an existing original project or idea, especially if one is struggling to do so. For writers age 13-18 ONLY.

Takeaway:

Students will leave with varied pre-writing techniques that will give them confidence for future writing projects, and at least one plan for a new or in-progress written work.

Class Format:

This class will take place in-person at our Center for Creative Writing in Boston's Seaport neighborhood.

Our space is fully ADA accessible with automatic door openers, ADA compliant restrooms, desk and table spacing, braille signage, and elevator. Our classrooms can be equipped with ALS for hard of hearing individuals.
