Young Adult Writers Program (YAWP): Advanced: Speed Zine
0.00
This class is an advanced class designed for more experienced YAWPers who’ve taken at least 2 Saturday YAWP classes or a weeklong summer (or vacation week) class, or the Teen Fellowship.
Nothing says ‘anything goes’ like the underground, do-it-yourself art form of the zine. The mini-magazine provides a way to share even the most off-beat ideas or quirky collages with the world.
In this session, we will dive into the process together, turning blank page to publication in one afternoon. First, we will look at local zines to examine the wide range of possibilities the art form offers. Then we will collaborate to come up with a cohesive idea for our zine. After discussing how to lay out art and words on a page and how to pack a punch in a small space, each writer will get their own page to fill with poetry, drawing, collage, comic, or other creative inspiration. Finally, we will work as an editing team to make decisions such as the zine title and page order. By the end of this class, you will have a zine complete with copies of everyone’s pages to take home! Writing notebooks and art supplies will be provided, and all levels of experience are welcome. For writers age 13-18 only.
