Whether you’re working on your first manuscript, have a few pieces published in literary journals, or have several book babies out in the world, you should consider how marketing fits into your trajectory as a writer. Marketing and publicity isn’t just about radio interviews and The New York Times Review of Books. It’s the process by which readers find out about you and your work. It’s the investment you make in your own identity as a writer and in the greater community of books and writers. And there’s no time like the present to inform yourself and get started.

Find out how you can employ the same creative energies that you use in your writing to marketing yourself. In this course, we will cover topics such as: press kits, social media, pitching, events, and developing marketing partnerships. We will examine marketing at the publisher, bookstore, and individual levels to analyze how community involvement – both in real life and virtually – can position you for greatness.

This class will be hosted using live Zoom meetings! You will be able to participate in class via Zoom videoconference from wherever you’re most comfortable. All you’ll need is a laptop or a phone! About 15 minutes before your class is scheduled to begin, you'll receive an email from your instructor with a link to join the class meeting via Zoom–no need to download anything or sign up for Zoom in advance! If you have questions about remote learning, please feel free to reach out to [email protected] for more information.
