Need some help getting started with your memoir or developing an existing manuscript? Strengthen your project in this six hour class designed to address problem areas and rediscover a sense of purpose. One of the challenges of memoir-writing can be turning the messiness of being human into a magnetic story with structural integrity. We’ll draw on both traditional and innovative techniques, and writers and thinkers such as Maggie Nelson, Joan Didion, Patti Smith, Aleksandar Hémon, Geoff Dyer, Carmen Maria Machado, Han Kang (and some others who will surprise you) to learn how the events of a life can form a cohesive story and how to find the spine of a great memoir.

Locate the thread of your narrative

Organize your material

Work around obstacles such as procrastination

Discover what your idea is telling you

Find the joy in writing even a difficult story
