Introducing a New Short Class Model
We're excited to introduce a new model for our short class curriculum as part of GrubStreet's recently launched Writing Roadmap — a simple, goal-based structure designed to guide you toward the best next steps for your unique writing journey. We're streamlining our short class offerings to make it easier to navigate our catalog and find a starting point, and we're turning some of our most beloved seminar classes into short, multi-week classes.
Beginning in October, we'll be launching our new "How to Series." These introductory seminars offer a quick, accessible way for writers to discover new genres, explore essential skills, or get a helpful refresher. Throughout the year, we'll be offering classes in every major genre, generative workshops, and a class on publishing. These short classes are a perfect entry point for those looking to dive into core fundamentals before committing to a multi-week workshop.
Upcoming “How To” classes include:
How to Write a Novel with Tim Weed
How to Write a Memoir with Ani Gjika
How to Write a Personal Essay with Katie Bannon
How to Write a Short Story with Kayla Degala-Paraíso
How to Write Poetry with Black Pruitt
- How to Get Published in Any Genre with Michael Zendejas
In addition to our weekly short classes, we're thrilled to bring you a special craft seminar once a month that explores unique and inspiring writing topics not covered in other classes and events. Designed as a larger seminar, these 2 - 3 hour sessions will focus on connecting the GrubStreet community with some of the most exciting and renowned voices in contemporary literature for a monthly dose of inspiration and writing guidance.
We're kicking off these special sessions with Steve Almond's "How to Write Riveting Scenes" in October, followed by "The Limited Writing Palette: A Generative Workshop" with Martine Bellen. And then later this fall, GrubStreet's 2024 Literary Ambassadors, acclaimed authors Jonathan Escoffery and Laura van den Berg, will be teaching two can't-miss seminars that we're offering at a reduced rate thanks to funding from GrubStreet donors and members:
- Laura van den Berg's "Bending Time" in November
- Jonathan Escoffery's "Object Lessons: Building Story from Props" in December
By streamlining our short class curriculum and anchoring it in our Writing Roadmap, we can offer a more in-depth experience. Writers at all stages can find more opportunities to receive feedback on their writing, work with talented instructors, and reach their writing goals in a supportive community.
We can’t wait to share even more classes in the future! In the meantime, check out our upcoming seminars and secure your spot today.
