Get Submitting: Top Five Opportunities for Writers in November 2025

The November 2025 edition of "Get Submitting" is a monthly hand-curated list of the top five contests, grants, scholarships, submission calls, and awards. We try to prioritize opportunities that are at least one of the following: open to all genres, local, free to apply, and/or committed to celebrating and supporting writers from historically marginalized communities. We do the research, so you have more time for what matters: the writing.
Submissions
NonBinary Review | Zoetic Press
Fee: $0; Award: Publication plus up to $30; Deadline: November 30th
Zoetic Press's award-winning themed lit journal, NonBinary Review, is published quarterly. Each issue revolves around a specific theme, but we're asking contributors to go beyond the old familiar media tropes - we want speculative work that looks at our theme from unexpected angles. This issue's theme is Carnival. Visit the website for complete guidelines.
Contests & Prizes
Cozy Writing Contest | Four Tulips
Fee: $2; Award: Publication; Deadline: November 30th
Four Tulips is looking for short prose and poetry with themes of warmth and comfort. Wining pieces will have rich imagery and be best served with some hot cocoa on a cold winter’s night. The winner and finalists will be published in the online magazine and in a Four Tulips print anthology. Visit the website for complete guidelines.
Quill Prose Award | Red Hen Press
Fee: $10; Award: $1,000 and publication; Deadline: November 30th
Queer literature is often found in the side stacks, in the back of the bookstore, under “Gay and Lesbian.” These authors are put into a genre that barely fits them, excluded from mainstream funding, and alienated by submission questionnaires and prying questions about identity and the underlying, “What are you?” The contradiction is that though labels can be alienating, they can also be empowering and community building. Red Hen Press seeks to work against the negative politics of labeling while honoring and empowering authors who identify as queer. Visit the website for complete guidelines.
32nd annual Robert J. DeMott Short Prose Contest | Quarter After Eight
Fee: $15; Award: $1,008.15 and publication; Deadline: December 1st
Submit up to three previously unpublished pieces of 500 words or fewer. Send your best prose poems, short-short stories, micro-essays, etc. All entries will be considered for publication in Quarter After Eight. Visit the website for complete guidelines.
W.S. Porter Prize for Short Story Collections | Regal House Publishing
Fee: $25; Award: $1,000 and publication; Deadline: December 1st
The W.S. Porter Prize is awarded to recognize a masterfully written short story collection, while also honoring William Sydney Porter, a native born son of North Carolina and an accomplished short story writer who wrote under the pseudonym O. Henry. Visit the website for complete guidelines.
