GrubStreet is thrilled to congratulate '20 Emerging Writer Fellow Julian Iralu! Julian's short story "Fishhook" was recently published in Booth Magazine.

We asked Julian how her time at GrubStreet influenced her accomplishment:

"The writers at GrubStreet celebrate the craft of speculative fiction and young adult fiction, inspiring me to create from place of risk, joy, associations, and peculiar details – rather than seeking restrictive perfection. As an Emerging Writer Fellow, taking classes in a variety of genres gave me a space to both cope with and reimagine memories of family violence. Thanks to the kind encouragement of Grubbie students and instructors, I feel inspired to be my bravest self as I play with language, images, character, and memories."
