Class Description

Are you looking to make progress on your young adult or middle grade novel? Are you stuck and not sure why? Then this class is for you. Each week assigned students will present pages to the class. By focusing on one another’s work, we will examine how novels are put together and study key elements of structure, theme, point of view, setting, and pacing. In addition, we will examine published YA and MG novels to see what works and what doesn’t work. By the end of class, students can expect to have 75-100 critiqued pages as well as a better understanding of their own strengths and vulnerabilities. You don’t need to have a finished novel to take this workshop. However, in order to get the most out of this class, it would be helpful if your work-in-progress is at least 50 pages.

*Note: This class will miss Monday, August 17th and end on August 31st.

Zoom Participation:

In our experience, the intimate nature of a writing workshop benefits from on-camera participation. Students are of course welcome to turn their camera off whenever they need to, but it is a community norm for cameras to be on most of the time. You can learn more about using Zoom here.

Zoom Accessibility:

You can enable closed captioning at any time during the meeting by clicking the CC button at the bottom of the screen. If you'd like to access the transcript after class, please make sure to let your instructor ahead of time that you'd like a copy.
